  in the position of “accidental grantwriter” and do not feel fully equippe
 d for the challenge. This session will provide a balance of applicable con
 tent and resources to deepen participants’ knowledge of and skills in gran
 twriting.\n\nParticipants will have an opportunity to learn about the basi
 cs of grantseeking. This session will dig into the basic elements of found
 ation research and grant planning.\n\nLearning Objectives\n<ul><li>Deepen 
 understanding of the Minnesota funding landscape</li>\n<li>Learn about the
  types of foundations providing grants to Minnesota nonprofits</li>\n<li>D
 evelop an understanding of the sections of a grant proposal including budg
 eting and evaluation</li>\n</ul>\nWorkshop participants will receive a cop
 y of the Handbook for Successful Grantwriting that covers topics ranging f
 rom research and planning to a glossary of commonly used terms. The Handbo
 ok is only available to participants and is not otherwise for sale.\n\n\n<
 strong>Speaker: Joe Pederson</strong>\nJoe Pederson is the regional coordi
 nator for the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits’ West Central Minnesota Chap
 ter\, based out of Fargo. Previously\, Joe was the executive director for 
 Lakes and Prairies Community Action Partnership from 2000 through 2015. Th
 rough this work\, Joe managed an $8 million budget and oversaw a wide rang
 e of programs with a particular focus on those with low-income and from di
 verse backgrounds. He was deeply engaged in public policy\, community rela
 tions\, fundraising\, managing relationships with public and private partn
 ers. In addition to his work at Lakes and Prairies\, Joe was an elected of
 ficial in Hawley due east of Fargo-Moorhead\, he worked for a number of ye
 ars for Clay County Social Services\, and he has worked closely with vario
 us MCN member organizations and partners. Joe holds a B.A. in history and 
 political science from Concordia College in Moorhead.
