St. Paul’s Newman Center
St. Paul’s Newman Center in Fargo, which serves as a “home-away-from-home,” for the daily spiritual needs of North Dakota State University students, is seeking a Development Director to lead and expand the development program to help fuel the ministry on NDSU’s campus.
The person in this role will work closely with the Director of the Newman Center and will be responsible to personally represent St. Paul’s Newman Center and ignite benefactors and potential benefactors to continually support the work. As one of the top 10 Newman Centers in the United States, it is essential for the Development Director to understand the value of campus ministry at a state university and be effective in communicating that to current and future benefactors.
The Development Director will be immediately responsible for the successful close out of the current capital campaign with an anticipated groundbreaking in the spring of 2019. Ongoing responsibilities will include Fundraising/Development, Donor and Student Engagement, Community Outreach, Administrative Oversight, and Event Planning.
This role will be challenging and rewarding for the right person. It requires independence, vision, personal accountability, driving results, community-focus, and relationship-building skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS
Fundraising/Development – See the current capital campaign through to completion, specifically working with current and future benefactors who have supported the mission in the past. Beyond the current campaign, the Development Director will establish and ensure the implementation of a practical and measurable fundraising strategy to acquire new donors and increase engagement from existing donors.
Donor/Student/Faculty Engagement – Get a kick out of representing and sharing the Newman Center story externally to parishes, groups, and individuals to gain support for the growth of the mission through financial contributions. On a campus level, the director will engage students and faculty to advance the Newman Center funding model through participation in the Newman Knight program, conducting presentations, participation in fundraising events, and active top-tier caseload management.
Event Planning – Plan, lead, and expand current fundraising events (Banquets, Bike Race, Giving Hearts Day) as well as evaluate and establish new fundraising event opportunities.
Administrative Oversight – Oversee Development staff, and volunteers to ensure success of initiatives, including the accuracy of donor information, and tracking of event results, and data collection.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Bachelor’s degree is required
Extensive knowledge and experience with major and planned giving, with a strong track record of proactive relationship building
Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently, with strong personal accountability and self-management
Attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills
Ability to travel (minimum of one 3-night trip per month)
