First-ever best practices guide for North Dakota nonprofits now available

Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence in North Dakota is the first-ever publication designed to provide North Dakota nonprofits striving for excellence with a tool for strategic planning and operational evaluation relative to other nonprofits in the state, to support the quality of the nonprofit sector and to increase public understanding of the role and contributions of the sector. This new guide for North Dakota nonprofits was developed by the North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations (NDANO).

“NDANO is committed to helping ‘raise the bar’ for North Dakota nonprofits to become more effective and efficient while maximizing community impact,” says Dana Schaar Jahner, NDANO executive director. “Principles and Practices is a management tool for nonprofits as they strive for good governance, accountability and transparency while meeting community needs.”

The publication includes 10 principles (governance, accountability and transparency, financial management, fundraising, human resources, advocacy and public policy, planning, evaluation, information and technology, and strategic alliances) and associated best practices, including legal requirements, for North Dakota nonprofits. “The North Dakota nonprofit sector strengthens the economy, improves communities and engages diverse stakeholders to enhance quality of life,” says Tim Eissinger, NDANO president. “NDANO is committed to providing nonprofits with resources such as Principles and Practices to ensure North Dakotans continue to benefit from the essential work of these organizations.”
