Meet A Member: Make-A-Wish® North Dakota

Make-A-Wish® North Dakota
We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. We are dedicated to making every eligible child's wish come true.

We approach every aspect of our work with unwavering standards of honesty, transparency and respect for wish recipients, their families and Foundation supporters. Our business practices always put the interests of wish children first. We aspire to best-in-class business practices, and we embrace the challenge to exceed expectations at every opportunity.

We foster a collaborative, global community of staff, volunteers and donors with the collective ability to make the broadest possible range of wishes come true.

We are inspired by the examples of our wish kids and the actions of the entire Make-A-Wish® community to approach our mission with life-affirming enthusiasm, imagination and creativity. As a result, we fill each wish experience and every interaction with hope, strength and joy.

Since 1985, Make-A-Wish® North Dakota has granted more than 650 wishes in the state. Over those years, the Foundation has served children and their families from 48 of the 53 counties in North Dakota. A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their life-threatening medical conditions. A recent wish impact study shows 89 percent of parents observed increases in wish kids' emotional strength, which can help them improve their health status. For many wish kids, their wish marks a turning point in their fight against their illnesses. When reflecting on his wish experience, Matt, now 21 years old, states: "Knowing that I was going to receive a wish helped me focus on getting better. The wish helped me forget about the chemo treatments, and I pushed myself to grow stronger so that I could go on my wish. While going through treatments, Make-A-Wish gave me the will to fight harder and get better."

As the number of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions increase each year, so do the number of wishes granted. In 2012, Make-A-Wish North Dakota granted a record breaking 34 wishes.
